The castle and the museum

Like the other fortresses, the Château de Castelnaud is loaded with a rich history marked by: conflicts between the Cathars and Catholics, fires, the 100 Years’ War and reconstruction periods. At the time, the Caumont family owned the castle but abandoned it in the 15th century to live in the Château des Milandes. After the French Revolution, the castle was abandoned until it was re-purchased in 1965 by Philippe and Véronique Rossillon who led it to be listed as a historical monument. Their son, Kléber Rossillon, an engineer, restored the castle and created the War Museum which holds an impressive collection of more than 250 weapons and pieces of armour.

The village of Castelnaud

The castle offers different activities. You can admire the blacksmith doing their work. Attend a costumed visit or a shooting demonstration with arquebusiers and trebuchets. Don’t miss the lesson in elegance during which you will learn about the concerns of a 15th century woman. The owners are passionate about Living History and they collaborate with specialised companies.
