By choosing to stay in our campsite, you will benefit from immediate proximity with the Château des Milandes. Located less than 15 minutes away, you will cross Castelnaud-la-Chapelle and pass in front of the magnificent Château de Castelnaud. The Périgord Noir is packed with unmissable sites such as Sarlat, Beynac and Marquessac, and our campsite is ideally located at the heart of all these marvellous places.

The Château des Milandes will attract you with its history, charm and beauty!

The history of the Château des Milandes

The Château des Milandes was built in 1489 by François de Caumont. Throughout the centuries, it faced religious conflicts and the 100 Years’ War, and it was abandoned after the Revolution. Charles Auguste Claverie undertook important renovation works at the start of the 20th century, transforming the castle and its park. Joséphine Baker, a famous icon of the roaring twenties and defender of civil rights, lived there with her family. Permanent exhibitions recount her life and her fight against racism.

Bird of prey shows

Discover the free flying bird of prey shows offered from May to October. Attend demonstrations putting on a show of a variety of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. Falconers will provide you with very important information on the behaviour and life of these birds. Although only about ten species participate in the shows, the castle contains more than sixty species, some of which are endangered.

The gardens

Don’t forget to explore the park during your visit. The splendid gardens, listed as a historical monument, offer a preserved environment. You will appreciate the magnificent French-style garden surrounded by a park which has been arranged to look like an English-style garden. Enjoy a nice walk among yew trees, atlas oak trees and cork oak trees while breathing in the fresh air of this enchanting place.

The activities

A multitude of activities awaits you throughout the year: falconry workshops, going into the aviary and feeding exotic birds, the musketeer workshop with fencing lessons, archaeology discoveries and lots more.

The site is open to the public all year:

  • In July and August: from 9:00 to 20:00
